Roasted is a hemp infused coffee designed for the unique <0.3% Delta 9 product category sold not in dispensaries but rather liquor and convenience stores. With the unique opportunity to get in front of people who might not typically walk through the doors of a dispensary, we needed to create something that would grab attention and communicate stigma free, high quality, and artisan. The client also requested we create a moment that nods to his family’s farm where the coffee is produced.
I decided to start with the etching of Roasted’s Costa Rican farm provided by the client since this was a point of emphasis for them. I let it influence some of the choices in the design process such as the “Etched” shadow in the primary logo and some of that fine line work used in the packaging design. This approach allowed us to create a system that seamlessly integrated the existing asset with the new design.
Since we were establishing this etching illustration as a part of the brand, it made sense to create more assets in this style. We created a cannabis leaf that felt as though it was drawn with the same tool, to create a cohesive, more universal graphic that we could use in a variety of applications.
